ICEBREAKER

Read Me notes issue 1.1

**NOTE the first version of LCD driver icelcd1.asm was faulty due to incorrect allocation of ports B4 and B5. This has been corrected in the latest version which has not been renamed. To check - open the icelcd1.asm file with a text editor and inspect the header notes.**

The simplest way to run Icebreaker is by copying all of the files on this disk to a single folder on a PC hard drive. For these notes it is assumed that the directory is called 'ibfinal' and is on the windows Desktop.

Open the directory containing IceBreaker and run the IceBreaker software by 'double clicking' on icebreak.exe. In the main IceBreaker window select 'Options' and then select 'Programmer'. Set the baud rate to 38400 if a 20 MHz crystal is being used, and select the Com port number to match the computer serial port that is to be used. Close the box by clicking 'OK'.

Power up the IceBreaker board, connect the serial lead, and then back in the main IceBreaker box click on the 'Reset' button. The window should flicker slightly and there should not be any error messages. If communications cannot be established, an error box will show. Check for power, serial lead connections, and that an IceBreaker chip with the correct firmware is fitted correctly.

If the IceBreaker board responds correctly, load the ib1a.asm file by clicking on 'File' 'Open' in the main IceBreaker box and selecting ib1a.asm

This loads the ib1a code to the computer. It must now be sent to the IceBreaker chip. In the main IceBreaker window click on 'Program' and then select 'Program' from the options provided. The programming progress box will open and the lower memory of the IceBreaker chip will be programmed with ib1a.

Make sure the IceBreaker source code window is open by selecting 'Windows' and 'Source' In the main IceBreaker box. then still in the main IceBreaker box press the 'Reset' and then 'Step' the code through one step at a time through the listing.
As this happens the source window will highlight the current line and the main window will show the state of the PC, W, and Status registers.

From here on, all of the options and features of IceBreaker can be tried.
